My life nowI have been teaching grades K-2 for the last 16 years with the Calgary Board of Education and will embark on a new adventure teaching grade 4/5 in a Gifted and Talented Education program this year. My passion for technology in the classroom has inspired me through many inquiry projects with my elementary students, continued professional development, and now a new direction to pursue my Masters in Educational Technology, a fully online program, through the University of British Columbia. I have 3 courses remaining in the program and am looking forward to graduating next summer. For the last 2 years I was living in Denver, CO with my family as my husband was offered an assignment there with his company. Living in Denver was an amazing experience for us as we fully embraced the opportunity to meet new people, explore the country as much as we could, and become loyal Bronco's fans!

My passion
I am extremely passionate about educational technology and believe that today’s children are born with a digital gear. Through digital environments, their engagement heightens from an environment that fosters creativity, investigation, collaboration, and critical thinking and problem solving skills. In my career so far, I have:
- Been the Educational Technology Lead teacher at all the schools I have worked at
- Supported the administration teams in providing professional development for staff
- Supported teachers in using and integrating technology in the classroom
- Had key roles on two school Learning Commons Committees to help transform their libraries into Learning Commons
Getting my Masters Degree in Educational Technology will be beneficial to me for many reasons. Firstly, I can continue to learn more about how kids learn today. I am also beginning to realize that for educators it is not so easy to change when there are so many pressures in the education system. Often enough, it is easy to express that the only way for an educational system to effectively equip students for 21st century learning are for its educators to fully embrace technology. However, successfully integrating technology into the classroom relies on much more than teachers’ willingness to embrace technology. It requires full alignment across the system, including policy-makers, administration, parents, students and teachers. I do know that It is important that schools adapt and develop new ways of teaching and learning that reflect a changing world and I want to be a part of that change. Secondly, I want to continue to support my students to:
- Make connections
- Stay engaged in their learning
- Offer a project-based environment where there is choice in learning
- Provide opportunities for collaboration
- Use digital technology to connect, share, access, reflect, and communicate.
We are living in a society driven by information access. It is important to me that I posses the skills and behaviors of a digital age professional and that my teaching practices reflect this world we are living in today. Moving forward, I need to become more comfortable being a co-learner with my students and colleagues and to foster a personalized learning approach to best prepare my students to be citizens in our technological world. I also feel a responsibility to parents, staff and school system, to inform, collaborate, guide, inspire, and reflect on the current and future practices of teaching and learning in the 21st century.

What I love to doI love to travel with my family. We have explored many amazing places from Istanbul and Paris to Costa Rica and Maui. Living in the US has also inspired us to explore its beauty. Our last road trip was an adventure through The Moab desert and the arches in Utah, to the Grand Canyon in Arizona, and more south to Santa Fe, New Mexico. |
The art of ZentangleZentangle is my newest passion in art. I have taken a few lessons in the last three years and continue to spend time on it in my free time. I introduced zentangle to my grade ones a couple years ago and it was amazing to see how focused and inspired they were in their own tangles, each unique in their own way.
